Joburg potential reshuffle ahead of season restart
Posted by: Newswire, 2025-03-31, 22 ViewsJohannesburg are at a crossroads. After a season participating in the WESCup where the valiantly battled to the quarter finals before succumbing in the final stages of the second leg to eventual finalists Liverpool the team is at a stage where decisions need to be made.
Top class striker Smyth is out of contract. At 32 and172 goals it is currently unknown as to whether he will be playing again for the White Jays, rumours are abound that he seeks a last pay day somewhere and the club maybe be looking to head in another direction with 2 solid choices to replace him, although neither Hawkins or Kager have taken their chances with both hands, despite impressing scouts in their youth careers.
Alongside Smyth, midfield general Josef Meyer is also unsure of his future. It is believe that negotiations are advanced on a new deal but nothing is yet confirmed.
There has been nothing concrete in regards to incomings although it is believed that strength in midfield is a priority and also some defensive cover has been earmarked as important.
Joburg have of course until the Saturday April 5th deadline (everyone take note of this!!) to confirm the initial squad for the new season as they look to return to the top 4 spots and competing amongst the best.
