Stockholm, Houston, Bern win RC; Istanbul wait on replay

The Regional Cup finals held Friday as another round of winners were announced at the end of a long, hard season.

Houston reach record total of RCs

Houston won their second RC back to back, but this time as a complete underdog. The Texans faced off against mighty Las Vegas in the repeat of the Wes Cup final from a few seasons ago. Following a major rebuild midseason, Houston fielded six players aged 23 and under. It was expected to be a tough game, but in the end, the veterans of Las Vegas seem to run out of steam at the end of the season.

Houston strolled to victory — 3-0. Journalist have been reporting that Las Vegas is planning a massive rebuild this off-season, and on the back of this game manager Paul Morland will likely find more motivation in splitting up the team. The Vegas players just didn’t turn up on the day.

For Houston, it’s a sign that the rebuild is going well. It marks the 18th RC trophy for the club —- now tied with Brasilia for most all time.

Bern fight off rival Prague

In another glamorous matchup, Bern faced off against Prague. The two clubs have been the major rivals in Europe south. However, Prague has struggled recently, as its aging squad has started to weaken. Today again, as expected by the bookies, Bern comfortably won the game 2-0. It was actually a very tight game with similar statistics, but the champions have been dominant in the region and few have been able to stop them.

Bern now has two trophies and will be going for the treble in the Wes Cup.

Stockholm claim their first RC

The Swedish capital of Stockholm has never won the Regional cup in its long history. Today was therefore a day of celebration as the club beat Kiev comfortably 1-0. Kiev is currently unmanaged, so Stockholm was expected to win this game. Nonetheless, it’s a big event for the club, which has won multiple division one titles before, but has never managed to cross the line in the domestic cup.

Stockholm is the only second team this season to win the trophy.

Istanbul, Beijing to wait on replay

In the only game that was tied today, two rest of the world clubs will be forced to wait one week until deciding final. Beijing and Istanbul tied the game 2-2, but the Chinese club will be looking back with some regret as they blew a 2-0 lead. Istanbul is looking for its fourth regional cup trophy in a row, and the brave fightback has given it another chance to pull off this impressive streak.

In both Cups for ES teams, all roads go thru Bern it seems.

Their strikers couldn't hit the Bern door in their last Wes Cup outing though ...
