After seven games, the divisions across American divisions are heating up. Here’s the latest news from the region:
· Jacksonville is the latest team to make a trade. The D2 club traded midfield star Koswara (5.75m), known for his impressive attacking challenges and solid setup, to Milan in Europe South. In return, the club received some young talent --- namely, two young excellent work ethic players and a 20yo 2.75m mid. It’s a brave move for the future for Jacksonville, but is unlikely to help in the club’s promotion push. The club currently sit in 8th in D2. For Milan, it’s a coup and a great addition to their title challenge hopes.
· Brasilia, the perennial title contender, is struggling this season. Two factors have unleashed a crisis – the long-term injury of star striker Burke and the disappointing start of newly transferred goalkeeper Hussien, with the 5save GK sitting on only 69% save ratio. The club received a boost on Saturday with a 3-0 win over rival Las Vegas, but the team still sits in 11th. Things can only improve.
· D1 club Nashville released their 7m goalkeeper Baker as the 32yo veteran made a poor start to the season. The Englishman had played for 10 seasons for the club, originally won as a star FA. He had a solid career for the club, although perhaps never reaching the heights that might be expected of a 5save keeper. It’s a calculated risk for the club, with manager Van now relying on a 1 save youth GK that has been relatively solid so far. In a final twist, fellow D1 club Las Vegas signed Baker from the FA list, hoping to get the vet performing while the club’s own keeper is going through a tough period (63% save, ouch).
· The second round of the RC Cup on Friday did not bring too many surprises. Most of the D1 teams qualified to the next round. The only major surprise was the exit of Pittsburgh, which crashed out against Detroit.
· In the Wes Cup, American clubs are not doing great. The only club guaranteed qualification is Las Vegas. Brasilia, Buenos Aires and Houston all need wins to guarantee qualification to the knockout stages. We wish them luck!
